Design Systems, Inc.

Manufacturing Process Development

Taking the project from concept to the floor is a smooth transition when carefully planned and thought out. Our engineers will develop the process sequence, labor requirements and operator work assignments to achieve an efficient and safe production operation. Specific work content includes:

  • Development of the Process Build / Sequence
  • Process Methods
  • Labor Standards & Man Assignments
  • Ergonomic Considerations
  • Hand & Power Tool Requirements
  • Process Equipment Needs
  • Delivery Route Sequencing

Design Systems understands the need to work with product design for manufacturability concerns. Our engineers regularly work with facility, equipment and tooling teams to insure a process design that produces high quality products with high efficiency.

Process Development

Have you already picked out your facility size?  How many direct labor operators do you need?  What is your process flow?  What type of conveyance method will you use?

Let DSI start at the beginning of your program to help determine the requirements so that you don’t waste precious capital funding in an oversized facility or worse yet end up with more space than you really need. DSI will work with your product development staff to create a macro level process flow based on AutoCAD, Solid Works, Unigraphics, Catia models, pre-production builds (pilots), or basic scroll level detail.

Detailed Work Assignments

Once you have a macro level process scroll completed it’s time to start putting together the details.  DSI has the hands on experience from years of interacting with process development teams for pharmaceutical, automotive, food industry, and warehousing to take the big picture down to the detail level.  Avoid future failures by using a company with the experience to identify and solve the problems before they get to the plant floor.  By following the process from cradle to grave we have gained experience on identifying problems from the level of the Chief Engineer down to the hourly employee responsible for executing the work assignment or delivering the material.

Moving Line Scroll / Non Value-Added Analysis

Now that you have the detailed work elements established and the corresponding layout it’s time to check your work.  No need to wait until AFTER the operator support equipment has been installed to determine that you built in NVA walk to your operator.

By combining the detailed work assignment with the proposed layout we can evaluate the entire cycle as the finished product moves.  This will allow real time analysis of the layout to assess opportunities to improve the layout or expose dwell time for interaction between more than operator or operator machine interaction.  This is also an excellent training tool to allow the operator to understand changes in the current work assignments and allow them to provide valuable input as to the station setup.  This can save significant costs associated with changes after the launch and assure a successful change for the process and operator.

Material and Packaging Analysis

As a part of our industrial engineering group, material logistics is proving to be a tremendous cost-savings for our customers. From internal routing of parts to trailer and container cubing, the savings are there for the taking.

Visual Station Integration and Launch Readiness

Any time you develop a new process or product or make changes to improve an existing process there are always issues that arise. Communication is the key to any successful project to assure that all parties involved are aware of what is going on with the others.

DSI has created a database with Windows user interface with customizable reports to handle what can seem like an insurmountable amount of data. The database funnels information from several sources into one repository to eliminate duplication of reporting and ending up with each organization or department managing only their issues in a different format. It also provides easy data management and allows cross-verification and ensures data integrity. Issues can be sorted and distributed in any way the project team sees fit but all issues have a date sensitive field with automated escalation process. By owning the database and having experienced Information Technology support, any customization required to fit your specific needs can be accommodated.
